Southampton make ‘pathetic’ Newcastle United social media jibe at Sunderland fans during 4-2 win

An official X post from Southampton infuriated Sunderland supporters.

Full time. Southampton 4, Sunderland 2.

Southampton’s 4-2 victory over Sunderland this weekend included a quick jab at Newcastle United on social media.

In the Championship on Saturday, Southampton defeated Sunderland 4-2 at St. Mary’s Stadium, resulting in the Wearsiders’ sixth straight loss for the first time since March 2006.

After an Adam Armstrong penalty and a goal from Stuart Armstrong in the first half, the Black Cats were behind two goals. However, following the break, Sunderland managed to tie the score thanks to goals from Jobe Bellingham and Romaine Mundle during a nine-minute stretch.

However, Southampton won the game as a result of two close-range goals from substitute Joe Rothwell, giving Russell Martin’s promotion-chasing team the advantage. Nonetheless, Southampton celebrated on social media after the game.

‘Ho’way the fellas,’ tweeted the Saints media team, along with a photo of their top scorer, Adam Armstrong, who was born in Newcastle and started his career with Newcastle United. ‘Ha’way the guys’ is how the well-known North East word is said in Sunderland.

When the game ended on Saturday, Sunderland supporters responded to the Twitter from Southampton’s official X account with great speed. “This group of guys is so pathetic,” Matt remarked.

With a nod to Sunderland’s thrilling victory over Southampton earlier in the season, Gavin said, “Got beat 5-0 and then proceeded to tweet against a team with an average age of 14.” “This is why I genuinely prefer Portsmouth,” Kris continued. I miss them.

Joseph commented: “Strange thing to do considering they knocked you out a semi-final of a cup not so long ago.”
