Rangers in talks over potential deal to sign ‘Exciting’ Dutch-born forward

Football Scotland reports that Watford and Coventry City are also interested in signing Raphael Borges Rodrigues from Macarthur FC, with Rangers having explored the possibility of doing so.

The Dutch-born 20-year-old Australian youth international has been evaluated by the Gers ahead of the summer, according to Mark Hendry’s story for the news source on May 1.

The versatile winger has also received interest from across Europe with Coventry said to have made contact with his representatives.

It has also been reported that Philippe Clement is adopting a transfer policy of “buying young and cheap and selling on down the line for profit”.

After joining Macarthur last year, manager Mile Sterjovski was quoted by A Leagues as saying: “We are really happy to have Raphael on board this season. He’s a talented youngster with a great future.”

“He’s already broken into the A-League, he has played for the Australian youth teams and we think he has got a bright career ahead of him. Raphael is an exciting attacking player and I think the Bulls’ fans will enjoy watching him this season.”

Should Rangers sign Raphael Borges Rodrigues?

The Australia under-20s international has had a positive season in the A-League with Macarthur FC after a free transfer from Melbourne City.

He joined City’s academy in 2017, but made very few appearances for the club before departing.

He can play on either flank and may even be able to put in a shift as a second striker if required of him at Rangers.

With him on the wing, he is always looking to dribble and take on his marker in order to try and create a chance for his teammates.

If James Tavernier remains at Ibrox, he may like playing with Borges Rodrigues in the side given how many free kicks he wins.
