£25m star backed to return to Celtic to finish career

Kieran Tierney backed to complete dramatic Celtic return to finish career

Celtic fans will hold fond memories of Kieran Tierney’s rise from a young academy prospect to becoming one of the best players Parkhead has witnessed across the 21st century.

The 26-year-old went on to win eight trophies in his time at the club, registering eight goals and 37 assists in 170 appearances across all competitions [Transfermarkt].

Tierney is now on loan at La Liga outfit Real Sociedad from Arsenal, having featured on 22 occasions this term, though it remains to be seen where his long-term future will sit come the summer.

In 2023, Brendan Rodgers’ return to Parkhead prompted murmurings that the Scotland international could make a dramatic return to his boyhood club; however, nothing came to fruition on that front.

Undoubtedly, the Douglas-born icon’s affinity towards Celtic knows no bounds, and he hasn’t closed the door on turning out in green and white again one day.

He stated in an interview with radio station talkSPORT earlier this month when asked if he’d ever consider it: “Who knows? You never know in football; it’s a connection that I’ll always have, somewhere I imagine I’ll always be linked with if I’m to move from any club, so you never know.”

Tam McManus backs Kieran Tierney to finish career at Celtic

For Celtic fans, the prospect of Tierney re-entering the fold at Parkhead would create widespread delirium, not only due to his talent but also his passion for the club.

Whether that does happen is a different conversation; however, pundit Tam McManus believes he will one day return to the scene he left for a joint-record sale of £25 million to join Arsenal in 2019.

McManus told PLZ Soccer: “I think he will finish his career at Celtic, I don’t know when it’ll be. Whether he’s wanting to come back now at probably the peak of his career, I’m not so sure, but I think you will see Kieran Tierney.

“His heart is at Celtic, he had to go. Obviously, Arsenal and the money that was on offer, but I think he will come back at some point and finish his career at Celtic.”

At the time, it was apparent that Celtic were willing to sell Tierney in light of the finances on offer, which also would’ve helped to soften the blow of missing out on Champions League football in 2018/19.

Either way, if he is available for a move this summer, intrigue will start to swirl over the possibility of the Hoops enacting a sensational swoop, regardless of whether there is anything in it or not.
