‘A danger throughout’: Southampton gem was ‘class’ as he scored on international duty on Thursday

David Brooks, a winger for Southampton, has been playing quite well lately.

The 26-year-old, who signed a loan from Bournemouth until the end of the season, joined the Saints during the January transfer window.

He has been an important member of Russell Martin’s team ever since. In his eight games for the team thus far, he has two goals and three assists.

During the March international break, the Southampton player was chosen in the Wales squad for his team’s Euro 2024 qualifying play-offs.

The first of those took place at The Cardiff City Stadium on Thursday night when Wales played Finland in the semi-final.

Brooks was able to carry over his recent club form to the international arena during the encounter.

In that matchup with Finland on Thursday, Brooks gave Wales the best possible start.

Three minutes into the game, the Southampton player pounced, finishing clinically on the rebound to put his team ahead 1-0.

The winger then set up Brennan Johnson to give the home team a crucial early advantage in the second half, with Wales leading 2-1 at the break.

The team led by Rob Page would go on to win 4-1 with great authority. Not unexpectedly, Brooks’s effort was praised.

The Daily Mail said the following regarding the Southampton man’s performance:

Brooks received a score of 7.5/10 for his services on behalf of Wales in that victory over Finland.

Surprisingly, the numbers seem to indicate that the winger had a generally unpleasant evening.

Except for his goal, all three of Brooks’ shots against Finland were off target, according to SofaScore. In the meantime, he lost 13 times and lost all four of the duels he participated in.

He also made three dribbling attempts, all of which were judged unsuccessful.

Still, his efforts would have applied pressure to the Finnish defenders in the end. In addition, the Southampton winger delivered a goal and an assist when it counted most.

Wales will now play Poland on Tuesday night in Cardiff. The victor of that contest will advance to Euro 2024.

The winger has contributed well in front of goal since joining Martin’s squad.

Southampton will want him to keep doing that through the remainder of the season because they are still in the running for promotion.

He is keeping up this momentum thanks to his performance for Wales on Thursday night, which should position him well to keep leaving his mark on the Saints.
