Tottenham handed blow after agreeing €26.5m deal to sign 27-year-old target
AC Milan defender Fikayo Tomori has been linked with a move to Tottenham Hotspur in recent weeks.
The 27-year-old has struggled for regular gametime at the Italian club and he needs to leave in order to play regularly.
According to a report from Gazzetta Dello Sport, Tottenham and Milan have already agreed on a deal worth around €26.5 million for the defender. However, the player has informed the Italian club that he does not wish to join the North London club. The development will come as a major blow for Tottenham. It remains to be seen whether they decide to abandon their pursuit of the English defender, or they try and convince him to change his mind.
Tottenham need more quality and depth in central defence and Tomori would be a quality addition. He will feel that he has unfinished business in the Premier League and he could help Tottenham tighten up at the back. The North London outfit have just three reliable central defenders at their disposal and they have struggled during injury problems. They need another central defender to add more depth to the side.
It remains to be seen how the situation develops. Milan and Tottenham were hoping to get the deal across the line and the defender’s decision has thrown a spanner in the works.
Tottenham need to improve their squad this month, and they should look to move on to other targets if the former Chelsea defender is not ready to join them. Signing a quality central defender should be a top priority for them.
They have had a disappointing season and they are unlikely to secure European qualification. However, they could still secure a respectable finish if they can plug the weaknesses in their side this month. It remains to be seen who they end up signing eventually.
