Sunderland set to receive eight-figure bid from Premier League club that will be ‘hard to refuse’
The Black Cats have been made aware of the sizable amount they could receive for one youngster.
With Deadline Day approaching, Sunderland still have plenty of business to conclude.
The focus from Kristjaan Speakman has been looking to transform Regis Le Bris’ attacking options to make his side fit for the fight for promotion, with several ambitious moves linked to the Black Cats throughout January.
Unfortunately, Sunderland have only managed two signings this month, including Enzo Le Fee from Roma, and more recently, striking a permanent deal for Wilson Isidor after the first half of the 2024/25 season where he shone on loan.
The lack of incomings is rather alarming for Sunderland, especially with the likely departure of attackers before the deadline, one of which being Tommy Watson, who looks set to fetch a huge potential bid from Premier League side Brighton.
Sunderland told the size of incoming eight-figure bid for Tommy Watson from Brighton
Black Cats winger Watson has had very little game-time this season, having only just burst onto the scene prior to his injury, but nonetheless, was still able to make a brilliant impact when on the grass.
Because of his talents displayed earlier on in the 2024/25 season, he has attracted interest from Premier League side Brighton, who have returned to the bidding table for the 18-year-old.
It is understood, per Alan Nixon on Patreon, that Brighton believe that a fee around the region of £10million could be enough to attain Watson’s services in a bid that would be ‘hard to refuse’ for Le Bris.
Nixon also reports that Brighton will implement a plan to gradually introduce him to first-team football, something that could very much lure Watson to the south coast.
Tommy Watson sale could open the door to ambitious Black Cats signings
It is clear that, whilst Watson’s abilities have proven to be brilliant in the limited game time this season, it would be difficult to turn down a £10million bid for a player that has just six Championship starts to his name.
If Speakman was to accept such a bid, it will give Sunderland the financial leverage to end the January window with a statement signing in the attacking front, one that may help propel the Black Cats towards the Premier League.
The likes of Willem Geubbels are likely to fetch an eight-figure fee, and a Watson sale would give Speakman the golden opportunity to put his money where his mouth is, by backing Le Bris with the attacker that he desires.
