Rangers beat Chelsea to player signing, financial agreement reached – Fabrizio Romano

Hearts youngster Alfie Hutchison has joined Rangers despite interest from several Premier League sides, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The transfer specialist reported via his Instagram story (2 July) that the Light Blues have managed to secure the teenager’s signature who has attracted interest from Chelsea, Newcastle United and Arsenal in the past.

Philippe Clement’s side will have to pay training compensation to their Premiership rivals for Hutchison who is available to play internationally for both Scotland and England in the future.

Have Rangers signed anyone new in the summer transfer window?

This may not be a first-team addition at Ibrox but is another exciting addition to the Rangers squad behind the scenes this summer as Clement and his recruitment team continue to prepare for the future in Glasgow.

The Light Blues deserve massive credit for managing to beat the likes of Chelsea and Arsenal to a player’s signature. While a move to Ibrox will have been attractive to Hutchinson, so will the riches of a Premier League academy.

At only 15 years old, it seems unlikely he will be thrown into Clement’s squad immediately, but the Belgian has shown in the past that he is willing to bed young players into his first team if he feels they’re good enough.

Hopefully, Hutchison will hit the ground running in the Light Blues academy and continue to develop as the footballing world expects. If he does, the Gers could have a real talent on their hands and it wouldn’t be a surprise if those Premier League teams come knocking again.

The Gers business cannot stop here however and Clement and Nils Koppen need to ensure that they add some much-needed experience and know-how into the side before the summer transfer window slams shut.
