Rangers star Todd Cantwell hits back at social media ‘weapon’ in new Instagram jibe

Rangers midfielder Todd Cantwell has hit back at a fan on social media labelling them a “weapon” in a heated Instagram exchange.

The English midfielder has been a divisive figure throughout his career at Ibrox as he has often been criticised by pundits and supporters for incidents both on and off the pitch since he arrived in Glasgow.

Cantwell had posted a video compilation of his best moments in a Gers shirt to his Instagram account with the caption “The best is coming” as he appeared to tease a return to his best form ahead of the new season.

Commenting on the Instagram post on Saturday (29 June) the supporter wrote: “Perform on the pitch instead of Instagram then?”

Cantwell quickly replied: “Clips are from me playing you weapon.”

Will Rangers sell Todd Cantwell in summer transfer window at Ibrox amid exit speculation?

While Cantwell is completely within his right to reply to the supporter via social media, this just seems like another incident that the Rangers midfielder should have really avoided instead of engaging with the supporter.

This fan isn’t the first person to aim a jibe the Englishman’s way and he is unlikely to be the last. It would be better for both the former Norwich man and the club as a whole if he just didn’t interact with these sorts of comments.

It wasn’t that long ago that Philippe Clement was having to drag him off of the field at Hampden Park following the Scottish Cup final. His actions both off and on the field are incredibly childish and need to change if he wants to be a success at Ibrox.

Ultimately, he needs the fans behind him and it is not nice to see ‘supporters’ criticise a player in this manner as it won’t help anyone. Hopefully, Cantwell will be able to live up to his caption and prove the doubters wrong next season.
