In The Know Reporter has Celtic tracking South American ‘wonderkid’

Celtic have been linked with Andy Rojas of Costa Rica.

The teenage striker is with his national squad at the Copa America after scoring five times in his breakthrough season with Herediano.

David Friel of The Sun is the source of the story, in February 2021 he broke the news of Neil Lennon’s departure alongside John Kennedy’s promotion to caretaker 12 hours before the Stock Market announcement.

With Adam Idah back at Norwich and Oh Hyeon-gyu a transfer target for Genk Celtic certainly need at least one new striking option alongside Kyogo Furuhashi.

After the events of last season when young prospects were brought in from outwith Europe and made little impact it was expected that recruitment this summer would focus on experience, players ready to make an instant first team impact.

In The SUN Friel reveals:

Celtic are tracking Costa Rica wonderkid Andy Rojas. The 18-year-old attacker earned a Copa America call-up after an impressive season with Herediano.

Sources in Rojas’ homeland claim Celtic are one of several European clubs eyeing him up. The highly-rated forward made history with a late substitute appearance for Costa Rica in Friday night’s 3-0 loss to Colombia.

Rojas became the youngest player to ever represent his nation at the Copa America. He can play anywhere across the frontline and is being tipped to make a big move this summer.

Celtic play their first pre-season match away to Ayr United on Friday with no sign of any new faces in the squad.

The more significant dates are July 21, 24 and 27 when the hoops head to the USA where they will take on DC United, Manchester City and Chelsea in high profile matches before the SPFL opener against Kilmarnock on August 4.
