Report: Celtic now close to signing ‘one of the best’ players on the planet

Celtic are now close to completing a fantastic signing – somebody who has actually been described as one of the best in the world.

Despite winning yet another Scottish Premiership title under Brendan Rodgers in the 2023/24 campaign, the Bhoys are still looking to strengthen – as any top team would.

Now, Celtic are closing in on a deal to sign a player who just got knocked out of UEFA EURO 2024…

Celtic close to signing Dominik Livakovic
A story from Fotomac in Turkey now claims that Celtic have had a bid accepted for Dominik Livakovic.

The Turkish news outlet believe Celtic offered €9m (£8m) for the Croatia international, and Fenerbahce have decided to accept the bid as the 29-year-old is keen to leave Turkey.

It is specifically said that the man from Zadar wants to leave due to an incident back in April, when Trabzonspor fans stormed the pitch to fight Fenerbahce players.

Livakovic only joined the Turkish giants – now managed by Jose Mourinho – in August 2023, but already said goodbye to his teammates before jetting off to Germany for UEFA EURO 2024, according to Fotomac.

The report adds that Fenerbahce have already agreed to sign Mattia Perin as a replacement for the Croatian, and Celtic will make an official announcement shortly.

Livakovic made 47 appearances last season across all competitions, impressively keeping 21 clean sheets while conceding just 46 goals.

Croatia international has been called “one of the best” in the world
Interestingly, Livakovic has been described as “one of the best” goalkeepers in the entire world.

It was Ivan Nevistic – his old teammate at Dinamo Zagreb – who made the comment, telling Sportske Novosti: “We have one of the best goalkeepers. Not only in Croatia, but the world.”

Livakovic is certainly deserving of such high praise, having played a huge role in Croatia finishing third at the 2022 World Cup, while he was also in fine form on Monday night in the 1-1 draw against Italy at UEFA EURO 2024, notably making one superb save from Alessandro Bastoni’s powerful header.

After Joe Hart decided to hang up his gloves, we believe Celtic have identified a fine replacement who can hold down the No.1 shirt for the foreseeable future, at the age of just 29.
