Rangers to boost finances after brand new transfer plan emerges at Ibrox

Rangers are looking to generate new revenue prospects by signing free agents with a view of selling them in the future, according to Dan Plumley.

The club have completed three transfers this summer already by securing Jefte and Oscar Cortes before completing a shock deal for AC Milan youngster Clinton Nsiala on a free transfer.

When asked if the club could be looking to replicate the situation with Calvin Bassey where he was sold for £20million two years after arriving, football finance expert Plumley admitted that it’s a good way for the club to operate.

Rangers to boost finances after brand new transfer plan emerges at Ibrox

“I would say so and as you say we’ve seen them do that in the past and when you roll that through into the bigger financial picture, it’s a realistic proposition for Rangers to generate finance and to grow talent, develop it and then boost the finances as well,” he exclusively told Ibrox News.

“How many times have we said a lot of the financials for that club will depend on Champions League or not? It’s going to depend on the wide broadcasting deal for Scottish football which is not that great in comparison to other leagues in Europe.

So the revenue generation prospects aside from signing loads of commercial deals, while also trying to maximise the player talent side of things, this is a way to do that and if you can do that on a consistent basis with a few players it does generate good performance on the pitch, hopefully with those players, but then a significant sell-on value as well that you can benefit from further down the line.”

Rangers must be smart in transfer window to catch Celtic

After missing out on the title again last year, there is now a significant gap between the Light Blues and Celtic financially.

A lot of that is down to prize money and the fact that Rangers haven’t been playing in the Champions League regularly in recent years, but it’s also because the Ibrox club have been very wasteful in the transfer market.

The club splashed big money on Sam Lammers last summer only to loan him out less than six months later, while they also missed out on big paydays for the likes of Alfredo Morelos and Ryan Kent by letting their contracts run down.

Those poor decisions mean they need to be far more responsible going forward in the market, and targeting young players with great re-sale value makes a lot of sense to do that.

They just have to get it right on the pitch and ensure those players can strengthen the squad and improve the team.
