Belgian sources have confirmed- bid on the way for Celtic striker

Oh Hyeon-gyu is reported to be a transfer target for Genk.

The striker joined Celtic in January 2023 and had the tough task of replacing Giorgos Giakoumakis who moved to Atlanta United in the MLS.

Oh made a reasonable contribution as back-up to Kyogo Furuhashi but missed the start of the 23/24 season through injury.

He maintained a respectable goals to minutes ratio but his progress came to a halt when Adam Idah was brought in on loan from Norwich on transfer deadline day.

Late on Tuesday Scott Burns of the Daily Record reported:

Genk want a summer move for Celtic striker Oh Hyeon-gyu. Belgian sources have confirmed that talks have already begun over a move. Genk are keen to land the South Korean international.

They have made the 23-year-old, who netted five goals for the hoops last season, one of their top targets.

It remains to be seen if it would be a loan or a permanent move, depending on Celtic’s stance.

With Oh struggling to make it onto the bench in the second half of last season it seems that he isn’t part of Brendan Rodgers’ future plans.

Recovering the £2m that Celtic spent on the striker shouldn’t be an issue but with Adam Idah back at Norwich it is unlikely that move for Oh would go through which would leave Rodgers with one striker.

If Idah returns on a permanent deal or another striker is signed a deal could go through to take Oh to Belgium but until that happens he looks like remaining at Celtic.
