CELTIC TOLD IF BRENDAN RODGERS PULLS OFF SHOCKING TRANSFER IT WILL ‘EXCITE EVERYONE’

An important summer transfer awaits Celtic and Brendan Rodgers.

During the recently-concluded season, Celtic fans made their feelings clear to the board when there were chants of ‘sack the board’ during the defeat to Hearts over the winter.

Celtic still delivered the Scottish Premiership title, but you just feel there is now a lot of pressure on the powers that be to back Rodgers with the right signings.

On one hand, the Bhoys are utterly dominant when it comes to domestic matters, even during a campaign when there were a number of poor performances, they still won two trophies, including beating Rangers in the Scottish Cup final.

But on the other hand, fans want to see more ambition in the transfer market because they want to see progress in the Champions League.

One area Celtic will be targeting this summer is replacing Joe Hart in between the sticks after his retirement at the end of the season.

The name of David de Gea, who is still a free agent after leaving Manchester United last summer, was mentioned and Andy Walker thinks there is a chance of bringing him in, as he told Go Radio.

Walker claimed that the Champions League could be a lure for a goalkeeper who has played 55 matches in Europe’s elite competition.

De Gea is still 33 and many are surprised that he hasn’t found a new club yet, with Walker adding that a deal for the Spanish star could ‘work for all parties’ and it’s a signing that would ‘excite everyone’.

David de Gea to replace Joe Hart at Celtic?

“Well, out-of-contract,” said Walker. “The great thing about coming to Celtic just now is that they can offer any player the Champions League. That’s a turn-on for a lot of guys.

“I know de Gea has made ridiculous sums of money in his career. But maybe the fact that he is out-of-contract, it might work for all parties, but I just wouldn’t rule out a big signing for Celtic, maybe certainly someone that’s got a name and de Gea has, obviously, got the name that would excite everyone.”

Celtic’s goalkeeping situation

It’s going to be interesting to see what road Celtic go down because some might point towards bringing in a young keeper

Yet, when Ange Postecoglou was in the dugout and needed a shot-stopper, he brought in Hart from Tottenham after he struggled for several years and was in his late 30s.

Hart provided many years of greatness for the team, including winning the Treble, so the club don’t exactly need to bring in a younger face.

Whatever happens, the next goalkeeper needs to have the capability of playing out from the back and being calm in possession because it’s what Rodgers needs to succeed again next season.
