‘Nothing Surprises You’ – Pundit reacts as Rangers transfer collapses

Jose Cordoba’s move to Rangers falling through late on in the process is not worth getting too upset about, according to Derek Ferguson.

Bulgarian outlet Top Sport had reported on 25 May that the Levski Sofia defender only had to pass an upcoming medical to complete a move to Glasgow, but by 29 May Rangers Review’s Chris Jack reported that the club had pulled out and the deal was off.

Ferguson cited Mo Johnstone’s decision to snub Celtic in favour of the Light Blues in 1989, which remains controversial to this day [Guardian], to demonstrate that it is impossible to see developments coming sometimes with transfers.

The ex-Ibrox midfielder accepts that, amid rival interest from Norwich, there is always a risk that moves won’t get done so Philippe Clement will simply need to move on to other targets.

“It happens. It’s football. Sometimes it can happen at the last minute,” he exclusively told Ibrox News.

“I’ll give you an example. Mo Johnston signed with Celtic before a lucrative contract was put in front of him from Rangers, and at that time Mo was a big Celtic fan and ended up signing for Glasgow Rangers so you couldn’t see that coming.

“So listen, nothing surprises you in football. Maybe the boy’s wanting to play his football in England, nothing wrong with that whatsoever. That’s just football.

“It might be money, it might be the lure of English football, but you cannae get too upset about that it’s just something that happens.”

Philippe Clement sees Rangers miss out on defensive target

Rangers have been active early this summer as the manager looks to engineer a squad overhaul, with deals secured for Jefte and Oscar Cortes, as well as a new contract for Leon Balogun.

But having moved to bring in a new centre-back to help address the lack of consistency at the position it will obviously be a frustration for Clement and Nils Koppen to miss out.

There is plenty of time left in the window and it is the reality for the Gers that competition from other leagues, and specifically in England, can render moves impossible, so turning their attentions to other options as quickly as possible is all the club can do.
