Rangers ace ‘Likely’ to leave Ibrox as Clement eyes replacement – report

Ben Davies is “likely” to leave Rangers this summer as Philippe Clement eyes a new left-footed centre-back this summer, according to Football Scotland.

Writing on their website (31 May), the news outlet report that the former Liverpool defender is likely to be sold as Gers look to earn extra cash to bolster their budget for the transfer window.

Davies started the final four games of the season due to the injury problems at Ibrox, but Clement is looking at replacements and the 28-year-old looks set to be moved on.

Rangers look to sign new defender with exodus planned

Clement is looking to put his stamp on the squad in Glasgow this summer, and it seems that very few players are actually safe in their role for the 2024/25 season.

The club are clearly in the market to improve their central defensive options but Clement has handed Leon Balogun a new deal at the club [The Sun, 27 May], and then pulled out of a deal for Jose Cordoba despite the player having already had a tour of Ibrox [Chris Jack, 24 May].

But with Davies expected to move on it would make sense that the club are still looking to bring someone else in, with Connor Goldson’s future also up in the air amid interest from Saudi Arabia.

There’s going to be plenty of movement in and out of the club and it’s important that the board are able to provide what the manager needs if they really want to close the gap on Celtic.

Titles and trophies have to be the priority for everyone involved and that means making ruthless decisions with the squad, so it wouldn’t be a surprise to see Davies moved on.
