Exclusive: Will Still agree to take Sunderland job

Roker Report understands that the deal to hand the Sunderland Head Coach job to Will Still was agreed verbally between both parties on Sunday, before the Belgian performed a u-turn when offered the job with Ligue 1 side RC Lens.

Investment, staffing and budget was all agreed between the club and Still ahead of signing an official deal, but the 31-year old former Reims gaffer was offered the vacant post with Lens in the meantime and it looks as though he’ll head there instead.

Sunderland have been looking for a new head coach since February when Michael Beale was relieved of his duties, and the decision was taken to wait until the end of the season to secure their man.

Reports this evening in the media have suggested Still had issues with the staffing and budget make-up at the club, but it’s believed those were issues that were agreed upon when he’d indicated to the club at the weekend that he’d like to take the job.

This leaves Sunderland exploring other options with pre-season starting in July.
