Rangers player signs last-gasp new contract at Ibrox – report

Leon Balogun has signed a one-year contract extension to stay on at Rangers, according to The Scottish Sun.

The news outlet shared the update via its website on Monday (27 May) as the early transfer activity continues at Ibrox.

Balogun was due to be out of contract at Ibrox this summer, but he recently hinted he would be open to penning fresh terms.

The defender is said to have won over Philippe Clement with his performances and it was felt he should be offered a further year, which he has agreed to in a last-gasp decision.

Rangers already active with transfer business

Supporters will be more excited about new arrivals at Ibrox, rather than those already at the club agreeing new deals, but this is smart business from the club.

Balogun played 19 times last season and his experience in the side is not something that can be easily replaced.

In an ideal world, another centre-back will be signed prior to next season, but Balogun is a good option to have around.

When you factor in the arrival of Jefte, plus one or two others that are seemingly close to signing, it is clear the club are not messing around.

The 2023-24 season may only have ended a few days ago, but already plans are fully in place for what will hopefully be a more successful 2024-25.

Clement will want at least three or four more players, each of whom will ideally strengthen the starting line-up rather than just the squad.

This may not be the most exciting of developments, but it makes sense in terms of the bigger picture.
