Rangers ‘on the brink’ of finalising seven-figure deal for int’L player – report

Rangers are set to complete an early piece of summer transfer business, with the club “on the brink” of signing Panama international Jose Cordoba, according to The Scottish Sun.

The deal could be worth in excess of £3million, which is reportedly higher than the price tag originally given by current club Levski Sofia of Bulgaria.

The 22-year-old defender has enjoyed a successful personal season in Europe and could be the first through the door ahead of a major squad overhaul expected by Philippe Clement and the recruitment team at Ibrox.

Rangers’ season has however far from finished, with the first Old Firm Scottish Cup final since 2002 set to be hosted at Hampden Park on Saturday (25 May).

It’s imperative to everyone at Rangers that the club get their transfer business spot on over the summer in order to bridge the gap to Celtic.

Fine margins have cost the Gers in the league this season, despite the club’s League Cup success – which could potentially be doubled with the last word on Brendan Rodgers’ side if the Scottish Cup turns out to be decorated in blue ribbons this weekend.

Keeping hold of key performers is as integral to Clement as bringing in reinforcements, with Jack Butland and James Tavernier having to be wrapped up this summer – even if the latter still has his critics.

Whilst the jury is still out on several of the squad, Clement must decide who to keep faith in and which stars are ready for the exit door at Ibrox.

Rangers may have only marginally missed out on title success this season, but it is clear that some players are not up to the task and better players – to put it brutally – are needed in certain positions.

For Rangers and Clement, a ruthless approach is the only approach this summer.
