View: Rangers star completely robbed as int’l announcement made today

Jack Butland has not been selected for the provisional England squad despite a stellar season with Rangers, the likes of James Trafford, Dean Henderson and Aaron Ramsdale have been chosen.

The squad was announced by Gareth Southgate on Tuesday, via X, (21 May) with a 33-man roster named ahead of two friendlies in June.

This squad will then be cut down to 26 players ahead of the European Championships which kick off in Germany on 14 June.

After a top-class season at Ibrox, Butland may have been hopeful of a spot in the squad but has been overlooked in place of some surprising call-ups.

Jack Butland deserves England call-up after Rangers form

Across 38 appearances for the Gers this campaign, Butland kept 18 clean sheets [FotMob] which was the most in the Scottish Premiership by three.

His cat-like reflexes have made him stand out, making world-class save after world-class save for Rangers.

It came as a surprise that he wasn’t called up for a previous England squad but he has now missed out on a spot on the plane for the EUROs.

Ahead of him is Ramsdale who has played just twice in 2024 as he conceded three in his starts against Brentford and Liverpool.

Henderson of Crystal Palace has been selected after conceding 30 goals in 14 appearances in the Premier League while keeping just four clean sheets [FotMob].

What is truly baffling is that Burnley’s Trafford has been given a call-up despite conceding 62 league goals [FotMob] before being dropped by Vincent Kompany.

Although it is very unlikely Butland would get game time ahead of Jordan Pickford, the Rangers man certainly deserves a shot ahead of the other three named.
