Rangers pipping English club to exciting talent as reported £20m star readies return – report

Rangers-linked South Africa talent Relebohile Mofokeng is a man in demand.

The 19-year-old Orlando Pirates winger is having quite the season in the Rainbow Nation and as a result is turning heads everywhere from Glasgow to Cairo.

Having recently had his talents compared to Andres Iniesta, South Afrian World Cup hero Siphiwe Tshabalala claims Mofokeng has ‘great potential’ to become South African football’s biggest export and tipped the midfielder-turned-winger to have a ‘great future’ in the national team.

No pressure then, kid.

It’s certainly an exciting link for Rangers fans, with Relebohile Mofokeng clearly a player of substantial potential even if he’s yet to leave his homeland.

And that potential could be put to the test in the coming months with several clubs tailing the player and – according to one report – Rangers currently leading the way.

Rangers ‘steal’ Mofokeng march

According to the Scottish Sun, Rangers have ‘stolen a march’ on several high profile Relebohile Mofokeng suitors.

Not least, this includes Premier League club Wolves, who handed Mofokeng a trial last year.

The other two sides named in the Mofokeng transfer hunt are Egyptian outfit Al-Ahly and the heavily-backed RB Salzburg in Austria.

In fact, the report goes as far as to state that Rangers are ‘closing in’ on what would be an exciting deal for a talented young player who is tipped to go to the very top of South African football.

A midfielder who can play on either wing, a move for Mofokeng would certainly fit Rangers’ evolving player trading model heading into ‘quite a rebuild’ this summer.

The news also comes amid reports that Fabio Silva, despite claiming he would like to stay at Rangers, will be returning to Molineux at the end of his Ibrox loan deal.

The long-term future of the Portuguese forward at Wolves remains to be seen but there have been reports of £20m interest in the striker from Italy and Spain.

Time for Rangers transfer talking is over

There have been a number of exciting transfer links to Rangers in the last few months and Relebohile Mofokeng is certainly amongst them.

Philippe Clement has also been clear that this current Rangers squad, which has experienced an abject Premiership failure for the final time, is at the end of its cycle.

With the Rangers manager changing his tune about the situation at the club in recent weeks, there’s a lot of work to be done this summer but the Belgian insists everyone is on the same page.

What’s more, Big Phil is clear that the time for talking is over.

“You can say things but you need to do things, you need to see things,” Clement told a press conference before the 3-3 draw with Hearts.

“Always the promises or plans are not enough, it is how you execute them, what you do with that. We are going to see that the next weeks, the next months.

“I am really convinced that the will is there in the club, that was also for me the point to come here.

“I felt that the people in the club wanted to make steps, wanted to work hard, they were also honest in many ways about what was going wrong with the club six months ago.

“It was important to have this honesty, this honesty is there also now. I feel that everybody is really engaged to make things better.

“That is the other thing, I know there are emotions now and that is normal when you don’t get your goal and that goal is always to become champion.

“It is also important to take the right conclusion and it is not that the last six months nothing happened here.

“There are already steps made but we are all very ambitious, and me in the first place, to make things a lot better.”
