Joe Hart is ‘irreplaceable’ for Celtic as Chris Sutton makes plea to departing keeper

Hart is set to hang up his gloves after next Saturday’s Scottish Cup Final showdown against Rangers.

Chris Sutton has once again urged Joe Hart to make a retirement U-turn and stay with Celtic for another season.

The veteran keeper made his last Parkhead appearance as Brendan Rodgers’ side marked trophy day with a 3-2 win over St Mirren. Fans paid tribute to hart with a second half banner and he was given a standing ovation as he was subbed off late on for Scott Bain. Hart also lifted the trophy alongside skipper Callum McGregor, and will be targeting another winners medal after next weekend’s Scottish Cup Final clash against Rangers.

Hart said after the game that physically, he feels he could keep playing but wanted to go out at his peak. He said: “I wanted to commit for the three years and give everything. I got to a point in my life where I was potentially on the way out and got another opportunity. I don’t want to push that luck, I want to finish strong, in a special place, in a special club.

And now he’s told BBC 606: “The issue with Joe Hart – I say an issue – he has brought so much to Celtic.

“Joe is 37 now and not only has he been a brilliant goalkeeper, he has been such a leader from day one. He’s a massive player for them and has been integral for Celtic, especially the longer the season has gone on.
