6 ins & 11 outs: 17 Sunderland transfer deals that could actually happen in the next few weeks

Sunderland are set for a big summer transfer window, with plenty of players potentially coming and going.

For Sunderland though, it looks like it might be a case of more outgoings than incomings, with the Black Cats having a number of players of interest to other clubs.

There’s a number of Premier League teams taking an interest in some of Sunderland’s young stars and owner Kyril Louis-Dreyfus may be keen to cash in on a few this summer.

But there’ll of course be some new arrivals after a tough 2023/24 season, and here we look at the 16 Sunderland transfer deals that could actually happen in the next few weeks

Anthony Patterson – Out
Goalkeeper Anthony Patterson, as things stand, looks like the most likely outgoing this summer, with Sheffield United reportedly keen on an £8million move for the Sunderland academy man.

Dan Ballard – Out
Dan Ballard is one of the many Sunderland players who’s had Premier League interest this summer, with Everton among the suitors.

Little has been said about Ballard potentially leaving though, so this might be a less likely one.

Callum Styles – In
One player who Sunderland could sign is Callum Styles; the Hungarian international spent the second half of the season on loan with the Black Cats who retain the option to buy him permanently.

It’s said that Sunderland still have some time before they need to make a decision on Styles.

Trai Hume – Out
Trai Hume also has suitors in both the Premier League and Europe, with Aston Villa mentioned along the Northern Ireland international after yet another impressive season.

Divin Mubama – In
Sunderland have been linked with West Ham’s wantaway striker Divin Mubama throughout the 2023/24 campaign, with reports at the start of May revealing that Sunderland are the front-runners for his signature.

He’s out of contract at West Ham next month.

Chris Rigg – Out
Like Patterson, Sunderland gem Chris Rigg is also in a lot of transfer headlines right now, with Bayern Munich, Bayer Leverkusen, Borussia Dortmund, Newcastle United, and Manchester United all heavily linked.

He turns 17 next month and will be eligible to sign a professional contract, though who that will be with remains to be seen.

Ian Poveda – In
One name Sunderland are said to be keen on is Colombian international Ian Poveda, who is out of contract at Leeds United this summer

The Black Cats though are rivalled by Burnley, Luton Town, and Sheffield Wednesday for 24-year-old Poveda.

Dan Neil – Out
Midfield favourite Dan Neil will likely attract transfer interest this summer after another standout season in the Championship, with Liverpool long-term admirers of his.

He’s currently injured though, which could play a part in whether or not he stays.

Luis Hemir – Out
Luis Hemir undoubtedly struggled with Sunderland in 2023/24, failing to score or assist in 23 Championship outings.

A loan exit looks probable for Hemir this summer, if Sunderland bring in attacking additions.

Chris Willock – In
QPR attacker Chris Willock is out of contract this summer and both Sunderland and Norwich City are said to be keen.

Jay Matete – Out
Jay Matete saw a fairly uneventful loan spell with Oxford United in League One cut short by injury earlier this year.

Sam Tickle – In
One name Sunderland may bring in to replace Patterson is England U21 and Wigan Athletic man Sam Tickle, who was reported to be of interest to Sunderland earlier this year.

Nazariy Rusyn – Out
Like Hemir, Nazariy Rusyn has struggled since making the switch to Sunderland last year, with reports in Europe suggesting that he could return to his native Ukraine this summer.

Jack Clarke – Out
Along with Patterson, Jack Clarke could be the most likely and most expensive Sunderland exit this summer, following his 15-goal haul in the Championship this season.

West Ham and Bournemouth have recently been credited with an interest, and expect rumours linking Clarke with a move away from Wearside to pick up in the next few weeks.
