Castleford Tigers secure contract for iconic Fijian flier Jason Qareqare in retention boost

Castleford Tigers have completed another important piece of retention work, with winger Jason Qareqare signing a new deal to remain with the club. Rugby League Live understands the Fiji international has signed a new contract with the club, ensuring he will remain with the Tigers beyond the end of the year.

Jason Qareqare has signed a new contract with Castleford Tigers.

The 20-year-old has shown promising signs at the start of his career, scoring 14 tries in 23 Super League appearances. He burst onto the scene in 2021 and it caught the attention of rival clubs, though the Tigers were able to retain him. They have now secured him again, with Qareqare following another youngster, Sam Hall, in signing a new contract. Rugby League Live revealed earlier this year that Hall would be penning a new deal with the club.

Qareqare made two appearances for Fiji at the end of last year, scoring in their victory over Papua New Guinea. He has featured twice under Craig Lingard so far this season.

The Tigers still have plenty of decisions to make across their squad. The likes of Alex Mellor, Liam Watts, Liam Horne and Charbel Tasiaple are off-contract at the end of the year while Innes Senior is only on loan until the end of the campaign. Tex Hoy also signed a short-term deal.

There’s also the likes of Danny Richardson, who is currently being offered out on loan to clubs, as well as youngsters Cain Robb and Brad Martin.
