Cost £0, now worth more than Souttar: Rangers hit the jackpot on “powerful” dynamo – opinion

A few players on the Rangers could turn a huge profit for them in the future.

The defence of Glasgow Rangers has been questionable in recent games; they gave up three goals to Celtic and Ross County before keeping a clean sheet in the match against Dundee.

John Souttar is the only player who truly received a pass grade; he has shown greatness since establishing himself as a regular starter.

When the defender’s Hearts contract expired in 2022, he joined on a free transfer. Even though Souttar’s progress was hindered by an ankle injury during his difficult initial year, he has reacted outstandingly this season.

The Scot has become an even more important player under Philippe Clement, as seen by his fourth-place finish in the Premiership rankings for accurate passes made to teammates (59.3), third-placed correct long balls per game (4.3), second-placed interceptions per game (one), and third-place clearances per game (3.5).

His primary advantage in one-on-one fights is his physicality, which guarantees that he will always emerge victorious. In fact, Souttar has a 72% success rate in the top division, winning 5.9 total duels each game, making him a nuisance to opposing attackers.

With a current market worth of €2.50 million (£2.1 million), the 27-year-old is just entering his peak and the Light Blues might turn a healthy return on a player who cost them nothing less than two years ago.

Dujon Sterling, a new addition to the team who also joined on a free transfer, is presently valued more than Souttar.

During his tenure as Chelsea’s coach, Michael Beale worked with Sterling and persuaded him to sign a contract with the Ibrox team last summer.

Rangers incurred no financial loss as a result of the move, which, like Souttar, may turn out to be a fantastic business decision.

This season, the Englishman has made an impression for the Gers in six different places, showcasing his versatility and ability to play anywhere.

Journalist Jonny McFarlane praised Sterling as “powerful and athletic,” and he has played 30 times in all competitions for the team thus far. Against Benfica in the Europa League, Sterling even scored his first-ever senior goal.

Sterling was used as a right winger in that encounter, but he did a great job in the 2-2 tie.

His market value has increased to €3 million (£2.5 million) as a result of his recent performances, and if he keeps demonstrating maturity well beyond his 24-year-old age, this amount will undoubtedly only rise over time.

Clement does still have a few reliable players who are giving it their all despite being let down by others, notably a few older members of this current team, despite recent dismal performances.

The Belgian may find himself with two valuable commodities that might bring the Light Blues enormous financial gain in the upcoming season if he can continue to develop both Souttar and Sterling.
