Big-money Rangers player destroyed – He offers ‘absolutely nothing’

Derek Ferguson destroys ‘woeful’ Fabio Silva in new rant after loss v Dundee

Derek Ferguson has slammed Fabio Silva for his recent performances as Rangers made it three games without a win as they drew 0-0 with Dundee at Dens Park.

The former Ibrox man insisted the forward offers “absolutely nothing” to the team and has been “woeful” in his last five or six performances for Philippe Clement’s side.

Ferguson questioned how his price tag was ever set at £35million as he joked there must be a clause in his contract at Ibrox that’s keeping him from being dropped from the lineup.

Speaking on the Open Goal podcast [18 April], Ferguson ranted: “Silva offers absolutely nothing. He must have a clause in his contract that he has to start every game because, in his last five or six performances, he’s been nothing short of woeful.

“He contributes absolutely nothing. £35million player? He does absolutely nothing. No contribution. The thing is, it’s this time of the season that if you want to be Champions you have to have mental strength and deal with pressure. It’s so disappointing.”

Fabio Silva stinks again as Derek Ferguson fumes in Rangers rant

It was another disappointing display from the Wolves loanee who continued his spell of awful form as he failed to affect the game in the final third before being substituted in favour of Rabbi Matondo shortly after the half-time break.

BBC journalist Tom English compounded this criticism during the game at Dens Park as he suggested Clement’s team had been playing with ten men until Silva was withdrawn in the second half, such was the anonymity of his display.

Given the fast start to his Ibrox career which had fans and pundits clamouring for him to stay at Rangers beyond the end of his loan deal, expectations have always been high surrounding Silva, and he is still yet to fully live up to them.

Ferguson’s rant comes amid plenty of frustration given the slip-up in results at Ibrox, but Silva is far from just a scapegoat – his performances have not been good enough and he must step up in the coming weeks.
