David Moyes provides Jarrod Bowen injury update after West Ham’s win at Wolves

The Irons travel to Germany for the first leg of their eagerly anticipated Europa League quarter-final with Bundesliga on Thursday night and it remains to be seen if Bowen will be passed fit to feature against the Bundesliga leaders at BayArena.

‘We have to hope he’s okay,’ West Ham manager Moyes told reporters when asked for an update on Bowen’s injury at his post-match press conference.

‘You need all your top players at this stage of the season and Jarrod is one who’s been doing great for us.

‘It looks like he’s had a knee into his hip, or his back. It’s not a twist or anything like that. He’s really stiff and I’ve had one or two of those myself and they don’t go away too quick.’

Moyes hopes Bowen is able to recover in time for West Ham’s clash with Leverkusen in five days time, with the England attacker telling his manager he was ‘feeling sore’ after the game.

‘We need to hope it doesn’t linger,’ Moyes added.

‘I asked Jarrod how he’s feeling and he said he feels sore. I’m just hoping it’s not too bad.

‘Every week you need your big players to be ready, but we need him this week.’

In his post-match interview with Sky Sports, Moyes added: ‘He took a knock. I think the boy’s knee went into his hip or into his ribcage, it was one or the each.

‘It looks sore and we’ll have to see how he is.

‘Obviously, hopefully we’ll get him back and he’ll be fine for Thursday night.’

Moyes said his West Ham side would be ‘doing everything’ in their power to reach the latter stages of the Europa League, a year on from their Europa Conference League triumph.

‘I think at this time of the year it’s really hard to win games and we’ve had a really difficult run of games,’ the Scot continued.

‘We’ve been away at Newcastle, Tottenham in midweek and Wolves away today so this week alone has been really difficult. There have been some difficult moments for us as well, today and over the last two games.

‘But we’ve got something that we really want, we’ve been hoping that we could be in Europe at this stage and get to the latter stages of it.

‘We’ve got a quarter-final and we’ll be doing everything we can.

‘We’re up against a huge team but we’ve done pretty well in Europe so I’ve good feelings that we can try and do it again.’
