Double West Brom situation will have EFL clubs on red alert: View

The contracts of two important Baggies players expire in the summer.

In the upcoming weeks, West Brom will aim for a great Championship season finale.

With eight points separating them from seventh-place Coventry City in the battle for a top six slot, the Baggies are now fifth in the second-tier standings.

As a result, Carlos Corberan’s team appears to be in a good position to earn a play-off spot, and they will work to keep it that way through the remainder of the campaign.

Naturally, that would then give them a chance to become the first team to return to the Premier League since 2021.

Should they succeed in doing so, two somewhat unlikely figures would have been instrumental in West Brom’s triumph.

West Brom is redeemed by Alex Mowatt and Cedric Kipre.
For Cedric Kipre and Alex Mowatt, things had not exactly gone as planned at The Hawthorns before this season.

Both players had had difficulty breaking through into the starting lineup or having the necessary influence for the Baggies.

In fact, Kipre and Mowatt were both on loan at Cardiff City and Middlesbrough in the Championship during the previous campaign.

However, after joining West Brom again in the summer, the two have seen a notable improvement in their standing with the team.

This season, both have emerged as vital members of Corberan’s team. Kipre has been a major force at the back for the Baggies, and many have rated him as one of the greatest defenders in the league this season.

Meanwhile, Mowatt has also shown promise, joining Okay Yokuslu in his team’s favourite two-man central midfield combination.

Nevertheless, even while that has clearly helped West Brom this season, it does give them cause for concern going into the summer, one that other Football League teams should be prepared to exploit.

West Brom contract issues

Kipre’s and Mowatt’s current West Brom contracts are set to expire at the end of the current campaign.

Under any scenario, these two players would undoubtedly be desirable targets for rival teams that the Baggies would be up against in the Championship.

Given their relative lack of transfer window investment, the two have demonstrated this season how valuable they can be in enabling a team mount an unexpected run for a top six berth.

In addition, both of them have a tonne of experience competing in the Championship, which undoubtedly makes them valuable resources for other clubs attempting to overcome the difficulties in this competition.

Because both of these players may be available on a free transfer, the team that is able to sign them would be receiving a great deal.

If any other team in this league is able to gain their services, it would undoubtedly be a huge coup, considering the success they have had with West Brom in helping them to a top six berth.

It wouldn’t come as a major surprise at this stage if Kipre and Mowatt are holding out for whatever offer they might receive at the end of the season.

It might be difficult for West Brom to cling on to the two if they don’t make it to the postseason, which is possible in the lottery of the play-offs. They might think a fresh start and a different environment would be beneficial.

In light of this, teams should be prepared to move for the pair in the hopes of obtaining their services.

By doing this, they would guarantee that they could both strike a deal and offer something akin to a declaration of intent.

Consequently, you get the impression that many other EFL clubs should now be closely monitoring the situation involving West Brom, especially in relation to Kipre and Mowatt.
