Akuila momo to make Fijian 7s debut at the esteemed Hong Kong 7s competition.

Akuila Momo, a native of Nalotawa, Ba, is scheduled to make his Fiji Airways Fijian 7s debut at the esteemed Hong Kong 7s competition.

Akuila’s switch from soccer to rugby occurred throughout his secondary education at Ratu Navula. He had played soccer from class 1 through class 8.

Even though he didn’t make the Deans trials team, Momo didn’t give up and moved to rugby league, where he played for Petero Civoniceva’s U18 team.

“I think after that I realized I actually did have a talent for rugby, and that gave me the motivation to keep going,” he remarked.

Momo’s skill was discovered by national 7s selectors at the Coral Coast 7s competition this year.

“It took some getting used to going from club rugby to national training, especially with discipline and diet, but I’m coping really well,” the player said.

Momo has taken Kaminieli Rasaku’s position as the Fiji Airways Fijian 7s rover due to his injury.
Momo received a call on Thursday.

“I was surprised to be selected to play in the Hong Kong 7s instead of Qams (Rasaku), as I wasn’t expecting to be a last-minute addition to the squad.”

Momo’s motivation was fueled by her family.

“Seeing my family happy at home and knowing they are proud of me makes me happy.”
My parents have made many sacrifices for me; they have always supported me financially and paid for my bus fare to and from training. This is a true blessing,” Momo remarked.

Akuila, the eldest of five siblings, bears the burden of his loved ones’ goals and dreams in addition to his own.

Along with Australia, Canada, and France, Fiji is in a competitive pool that could produce exciting matchups and intense competition.
