James Tavernier on breaking UK record and Rangers penalty miss reason

What is your impression of that game now?

Three crucial points. In the first half, I felt we could have done a little better when it came to press defense. Even though there were far too many spaces, we were happy with how we rallied after giving up the goal before halftime. That, I believe, was their only opportunity of the entire game. We then played excellent game management, but we could have scored a few more goals. I’m happy to see guys returning to the club in good health. Rabbi getting on the scoresheet and Abda returning. Our daily efforts to cultivate a winning mindset are bearing fruit, as seen by our performance. We never turn around; instead, we always look ahead to riding the waves or rising to the occasion.

The pen has to come first! As to where to put the ball, I paid attention to my wife. It did not go in, despite her advice to simply go down the middle, which guaranteed a goal. For that one, she is being held accountable. I was forced to react, and I did. It was important to control the tempo up front since Hibs are a good football team that enjoys playing. I thought Dujon filled in quite nicely, and we handled it really well.

Happy to see a few players make a comeback?

Extremely happy for Rabbi. It’s fantastic to see athletes in good health and fitness again. As a captain, you want the gaffer to say that he will have a headache during selection. You want everyone to encourage one another. I’m really glad Abd returned and that Rabbi is now listed on the scorecard.

This season, you’ve had an extremely remarkable goal total.

It’s not too horrible; clearly the gaffer and the team enable me to have this flexibility. I fully accept responsibility for that goal since I was not following my man correctly, but I still managed to score, and I will strive to support the squad in any way I can for the remainder of the season.

Near the end of the game, you fell. Are you okay?

I’ve just been eating soup and mashed potatoes because I had three teeth out at the beginning of the week. It was just a minor cramp, but my diet hasn’t been the greatest.

You’re the top-scoring defender in the UK now?

It’s absurd. I would not have believed you if you had told me when I started playing professional football that I would have the opportunity to become the highest-scoring British defender in history. That is due to all of my playing companions throughout the years who have supported me along the way. I’ll just keep putting in a lot of effort and see how many I can earn till I hang up my boots.
