‘Zip It’ – Ferguson: Ace’s ‘vocal’ father must butt out over Rangers exit

Derek Ferguson said that in light of the Romanian legend’s comments regarding an Ibrox exit, Gheorghe Hagi needs to give his son Ianis the freedom to decide for himself about his Rangers future.

Rangers: Derek Ferguson reacts to Ianis Hagi Ibrox exit claims from 'vocal' father Gheorghe

The former Gers midfielder acknowledges that he occasionally had to keep his emotions to himself and speaks from experience as the father of Bologna captain Lewis.

Only days after his well-known father called reports that he wanted to leave Glasgow “false,” Hagi junior, who is presently on loan at Alaves in Spain, acknowledged he wants to leave the Light Blues for a permanent stay in La Liga because it suited his style.

Ferguson thinks Ianis, not Gheorghe, must make the decision, even if he isn’t sure the 25-year-old would be Philippe Clement’s type of player anyhow.

He said exclusively to Ibrox News, “I’m not sure.” One thing, though—I know his dad likes to talk a lot. Even with my son, I occasionally hear the advice to “zip it,” as it’s preferable to let your child use his feet to communicate.

There, he hasn’t played a lot of football. Although he is a gifted player, we don’t know if he would be Philippe Clement’s type.

“I understand that he wants the best for his son, but there are instances when I believe it’s better to step back a bit. Let the youngster make his own decisions because it’s his career and he’s a mature young man (he’s 25 years old today).

Ibrox permanent exit for Rangers loanee during summer transfer window?

Hagi will probably leave if he is prepared to do so because things under Clement have changed significantly from the Michael Beale setup he left behind.

Due to a significant knee injury that occurred before he departed on loan, he has only made 13 appearances for Rangers in more than two years; nonetheless, due to no fault of his own, he has long since established himself as a regular at Ibrox.

While Father Gheorghe may have been attempting to remain flexible, Ianis appears to have his sights set on Spain, so he may be among those who leave Glasgow this summer.
