Rangers’ most prolific attacker is nearly back – and can swing league

Why Abdallah Sima’s timely injury return can swing league

While serving for Senegal abroad, Abdallah Sima received an injury, and it wasn’t a good one.

The rumors were Sima was to return from his overseas assignment right away, and the initial diagnosis would mean a long stay on the touchline.

Following the game, Philippe Clement told the media that he will confer with the medical staff before making any announcements. Later on in the month, the dreadful news would come through.

“It will take a while. In the lead-up to a trip to Hibs in late January, the manager stated, “That is also why I want to have the right information.”

The manager would later disclose that Sima would be absent for “two or three months” due to an injury.
The news could not have been worse. Abdallah had found his game, scoring ten goals in a game and posing a consistent threat from wide left. The rookie forward was one of the Rangers’ best performers of the year until an injury halted his progress. And not just because of what he did with the ball. Who can forget Sima, in the final moments of the League Cup Final, sprinting back to defend at right back, winning the ball, and then winning a subsequent free kick to help Rangers hold on? He has a very diligent work ethic.

It seemed expensive to lose Sima for the entirety of the African Cup of Nations. One of the biggest injury blows in a season full of them has turned out to be losing him for as long as twelve weeks following that initial departure.

The Brighton forward’s mentality has been almost as impressive as his skills. Sima had scored five goals in cup competitions and ten goals in the league at the time of his injury. Both the team and the fans of the Rangers have missed him terribly. This year, the team has battled on four fronts to win a domestic triple crown, but they have done so without their top attacker from the first part of the campaign.
Sima has 15 goals in 33 games across all competitions, averaging 0.52 goals per 90. As good as a wing goal every other game.

After the loss against Benfica last week, I questioned Clement about Sima’s chances of making a comeback. He seemed puzzled when I asked, almost confusing my query with a request for his swift return in the upcoming days. I quickly cleared that up.

“Abda is proceeding as previously predicted,” Clement stated. One small step at a time, he feels so terrific. He is currently outside but not yet with the team, continuing his rehabilitation. It is fantastic that he is making such good progress.

There is a nagging notion that the forward might have a chance to participate in the Old Firm game on April 7. The psychological lift alone from even having him available off the bench would be enormous.
Rangers have nine games left to win the league trophy back at Ibrox, thus in the next weeks, heroes will be created and legacies will be destroyed. In addition, a Scottish Cup Semi-Final is imminent as the team strives for domestic success not seen since Alex McLeish’s era.

We will need every member of the squad to give it their all if we are to reach such great heights.

Rangers might use Abdallah Sima and his fifteen goals to come back just when they need a little pick-me-up to get back into the title race.

He should be aware of this even though his future is still undetermined. You won’t find legendary status somewhere else in a football career if you succeed at Rangers.

Sima’s return is precisely what Clement needs going into the last stretch of the season, and it might help swing this season in Rangers’ favor.
