Fiji Rugby Announces Gareth Baber as Consultant New National Program Manager for 7s Rugby.

February 20th, 2024 — Suva, Fiji With great pleasure, Fiji Rugby announces the hiring of Gareth Baber as Consultant National Programme Manager for 7s Rugby, where he will be in charge of the national 7s programmes for both men and women.

The coach who won an Olympic gold medal for the men’s 7s team in 2020 will be instrumental in making sure the team has a solid plan in place as they prepare for this year’s Summer Olympics.

Gareth Baber is a successful rugby manager with a wealth of experience. He offers a special combination of technical know-how, strategic vision, and leadership to his new position. His involvement coincides with a critical juncture for Fiji Rugby, as the national 7s team of Fiji Airways gets ready for both the Summer Olympics 7s competition, which is set to take place in France from July 24 to 30, and the rest of the HSBC SVNS Series.

The men’s and women’s national 7s programmes will be under Gareth’s direction in every way, including player development, coaching tactics, tournament planning, and performance monitoring. To make sure that our Fiji Airways Fijian 7s squad and Fiji Airways Fijiana 7s team are ready to compete at the top level on the international scene, he will collaborate closely with coaches, players, and support personnel.

With Gareth’s appointment, Fiji Rugby can be guaranteed that it will continue to be a dominant force in the rugby sevens world and that it will remain committed to excellence. His experience and leadership will be crucial in raising the bar for the men’s and women’s national 7s teams as they strive for Olympic medals.
