‘Where I want to be’ – Rangers international ace goes public with wish to leave Ibrox

Ianis Hagi believes La Liga is the best football league for him, hence he does want to leave Rangers for that league.

Rangers: Ianis Hagi goes public with wish to leave Ibrox despite father's 'false' claims

While on loan at Alaves this season, the Gers winger fell in love with everything about La Liga and told MARCA on March 21 that Spain is “where I want to be.”

Though he has spoken well of his time in Glasgow and expressed gratitude to the supporters, the 25-year-old has now acknowledged that leaving Ibrox in the summer is his goal. His father, the Romanian star Gheorghe, had only this week called out reports that the player is wanting to leave Ibrox as “false.”

“I love the level of La Liga, I love everything in Spain: the teams, the competition between players and teams, the pressure that exists here,” Hagi stated in an English translation.

“I believe that this is the league that will allow me to reach my full potential and showcase all of my strengths. I have watched this league since I was a young child, and I have always dreamed of being here. I want to stay here for a very long time, thus I’m here right now.

When asked explicitly if he intended to be in Spain the next year, he replied, “Yes, that is where I want to be.” I feel that this game has the potential to bring out the best in me, and it is the football in which I wish to develop. After just six to seven months here, I already feel that I’ve improved as a player and that my skills in both training and competition are developing daily.

“I feel like I’m getting better every day, and I think my best traits will come out soon and I’ll finally show everyone who I am.”

Has the Rangers player already played his final game at Ibrox?

It appeared as though the Romanian international would have been interested in returning to compete for a spot under the new manager given the shifting circumstances back in Scotland, where Philippe Clement had taken Michael Beale’s position and revived the title challenge.

However, it seems that he has directly refuted his father’s recent assertion, therefore it appears that an exit is most likely imminent.

With the loss of Ryan Kent and Fashion Sakala, the signing of Abdallah Sima and Oscar Cortes, and the rise of Ross McCausland, the situation in his positions at Ibrox has significantly altered from the previous season.

But, there might be a chance given the uncertain futures of Scott Wright and Rabbi Matondo as well as the uncertainty surrounding Rangers’ ability to sign Sima and Cortes, the injured star loanees, this summer.

Although Clement won’t have had a close-up look at Hagi, the Belgian has already witnessed the significant advancement of several players—including John Lundstram, the adaptable Dujon Sterling, and Ridvan Yilmaz—who were gradually overlooked under Beale.

Although Hagi missed more than a year due to injury between the Giovanni van Bronckhorst and Beale eras, it might not matter if he has determined that Spain is where his future lies.
