Championship news: Sunderland’s divisional rivals issue statement to fans amid £7.3m problem

A increasing dread of legal action has been felt by the Championship club.

Blackburn Rovers, Sunderland’s divisional opponents in the Championship, have sent out a statement to worried supporters.

Venky’s London Limited (VLL), the parent business of Blackburn Rovers, is embroiled in the conflict between Venkateshwara Hatcheries Private Limited (VHPL) and the Indian government.

The parent company of VLL, which owns Rovers, VHPL, had assets valued at £7.3 million taken by the Indian government last month. This caused some supporters to worry and speculate that the club might not receive the necessary funding. Rovers, though, have since released a statement.

The statement, which was made public on Monday night, stated, “The owners would like to assure all Blackburn Rovers supporters and parters that the club will continue to have their full support in the short, medium, and long-term.”

The current legal dispute in India concerns solely technical and procedural matters with Venkateshswara Hatcheries Pvt Ltd (VHPL) and should not affect the owners’ ability to finance the team in the future.

“The owners have consistently provided assistance to the club, and they will do so as needed, even during the incredibly tough times of the Covid epidemic and the challenges faced last year.

“Finally, the owners would like to thank the opportinity to thank all associated with the club for their support and have full belief that under our new head coach John Eustace we can have a strong end to the current season.”
