‘Total Embarrassment’ – Chris Sutton rages after Rangers announcement today

Chris Sutton has been left in a rage and branded the decision to call off Rangers’ Premiership clash with Dundee so close to kick-off an “absolute shambles”.

Philippe Clement’s side were due to play at Dens Park on Sunday (17 March) but the game was postponed following a second pitch inspection from referee Don Robertson less than two hours before the match was meant to kick-off.

Both the players and supporters had already made the journey to the ground and now face a trip back to Glasgow following the late call, which Sky Sports pundit Sutton branded a “total embarrassment”.

Chris Sutton rages over 'total embarrassment' as Rangers make Sunday announcement

Writing on X on Sunday (17 March) he said: “A total embarrassment for the Scottish top flight having the Dundee Rangers game called off an hour and a half before kick-off.

“Absolute shambles how it’s come to this. Don Robertson the ref rocks up at 1020 for a pitch inspection… surely a decision earlier would be wiser…”

Has Rangers’ clash with Dundee FC been called off?

Officials in Scotland have come in for plenty of criticism in the last few weeks for a wide variety of reasons, whether that be for ridiculous decisions in huge matches or bad calls ahead of games and this is the latest in a long list.

It was clear after footage emerged of the initial pitch inspection at Dens Park that the pitch was not fit to be played on today and it didn’t need to take another hour and a second inspection from the referee to make that final call.

The Scottish Premiership is meant to be a high-profile league but the standards north of the border are nothing short of ridiculous. These sorts of late postponements are what is expected of Sunday League football, not a professional league.

As Sutton said, the entire process ahead of Sunday’s game was nothing short of embarrassing and steps have to be taken to stop this sort of pointless exercise taking place week in and week out, especially at Dens Park.
