Kenny Dalglish reveals what Celtic won’t admit about Rangers in Europe with coefficient not the only worry

Concerned Kenny Dalglish reckons Celtic would have preferred Rangers CONTINUED their Europa League journey.

And he insists it’s not to do with the major coefficient jeopardy facing the Scottish Premiership champions during their upcoming campaigns. After Philippe Clement’s side crashed out at the hands of Benfica, the Czech Republic are in pole position to move into the top 10 of the coefficient rankings – which would see the Scottish champions lose their guaranteed Champions League group stage spot from the winners up to 2025/26 campaign.

Rangers exit means Scotland is now unable to add any more points going forward, while any result while Viktoria Plzen will face Fiorentina in the Europa Conference League quarter-finals. Any positive result for the Czechs against the Serie A outfit would see Scotland drop out of the 10 – but for former Celtic hero Dalglish it’s all about the title race.

“I was surprised that Philippe Clement’s side lost on Thursday. I fancied them to go through. However, they just came up short. There will be disappointment about that defeat.

“I also think Celtic would have preferred Gers to stay in Europe as it’s a potential drain on their resources in the coming weeks. Rangers know that if they keep winning then they will become league champions. It’s a great position to be in.”
