Sale agree deal for Fiji captain Nayacalevu
|Waisea Nayacalevu, the captain of Fiji, will play for Sale starting in the upcoming season.
At the end of the season, the Toulon centre will join the Manchester-based team after departing from the Top14 club.
Nayacalevu and the Sharks have reached an agreement for a one-year contract with a one-year option.
“I’ve watched the Premiership for a long time and it’s always been in the back of my mind that I would love to play there one day and experience rugby in England,” he stated on the club’s website.
Prior to the most recent World Cup, Nayacalevu scored a try in Fiji’s historic victory at Twickenham while serving as captain of his nation.
The 33-year-old, who played centre or wing for Stade Francais for ten years, moved to Toulon two years ago.
“I have spoken to Telusa Veainu and he only has positive things to say about the club and about Manchester,” said Nayacalevu.
“I’m excited to play alongside some of the players I’ve faced off against, such as George Ford and Tom Curry.
“However, I am also aware that the Sale Sharks team has a number of extremely gifted young players, and I am eager to impart my knowledge and support their growth as much as I can.
“I told Alex that it’s what I’ve been doing for the last few years of my career and it’s something I’m passionate about.”
