The Newcastle legend played goalkeeping in the English Premier League for 450 games, recording an amazing 113 clean sheets while playing for Stoke City, Blackburn, Man City, Aston Villa, and the Toon. With just 17 goalies in the division’s history having kept more than 100 clean sheets, it solidified his place among the best keepers of all time.

He was in the Celtic junior academy before becoming famous in the Premier League; Kenny Dalglish saw his potential there and brought him to Blackburn. Based on his most recent decision, it appears that he still has strong Hoops ties.

The race for the Premiership title is close, with Brendan Rodgers’ Hoops behind Philippe Clement’s Rangers by only two points. Both teams play in this weekend’s Scottish Cup quarterfinals—Celtic vs Livingston and Rangers vs Hibs—but the focus will soon return to the biggest prize.

Given is hoping for a custard pie for the Light Blues, but he knows that the way things are going, it’s going to be a picture finish. When asked if Rangers will win, he said to Football Focus, “I hope not! Fans of the Rangers are now yelling at the TV. From an impartial stance, it’s thrilling once more—there’s a true race for the championship since Celtic has been playing so well these past several years.

They have only yet to play one another twice. It’s going to down to the wire and is rather close. Naturally, I hope Brendan [Rodgers] can close the gap, but the title race is fiercely competitive north of the border.”
