Kolinisau named new Fiji 7s coach after Gollings’ failure to win title

Ben Gollings, the head coach of the Fiji 7s, was fired by the Fiji Rugby Union, and Osea Kolinasau, a 2016 Olympic Games gold medallist and a former captain of the team, took over as coach.

Peter Mazey, the chairman of the FRU board, made the news Monday at Rugby House in Suva.

Gollings was fired as a result of Fiji’s inability to win a title in the HSBC SVNS Series for 19 straight events.

According to Mazey, Kolinisau and FRU have been in communication since December of last year on Kolinisau’s willingness to lead the team.

He maintained that there was no coercion involved in the appointment of Kolinisau.

The FRU players and staff, according to Mazey, confirmed the organization’s unwavering support.

He stated that an advisory panel to support the Fiji 7s teams would shortly be announced by the FRU.

With new sevens star Antoine Dupont shining, France won the Los Angeles title last weekend, highlighting its challenge for the July Olympics in Paris.
