Rangers missing figure that would have ‘avioded’ slap in the chops

Neil McCann believes that if Rangers had one more important player on the squad, they would have avoided their shocking loss to Motherwell.

Stuart Kettlewell and his Steelmen defeated Philippe Clement and his team 2-1 at Ibrox, dealing a serious blow to their ambitions of defeating Celtic for the Premiership title. Theo Bair and James Tavernier’s goals stunned the home crowd into silence before Dan Casey’s winner put the Hoops back in the driver’s seat, provided they defeat Hearts.

According to Pundit McCann, Rangers are suffering from the absence of a reliable goal scorer. Once more, they produced some excellent opportunities, but Cyriel Dessers and Fabio Silva were guilty of squandering them. He is aware that his former team has been “immense” since Clement took over, but he believes that today’s defeat to Motherwell will be painful. Now, they must start over as they prepare for two important games: a big Europa League match against Benfica and a trip to Easter Road to play Hibs in the Scottish Cup quarterfinals.

BBC Sportscene pundit Neil McCann

McCann stated on BBC Sportscene: “I don’t think Rangers have a clear-cut goal striker. I am aware that Dessers has achieved his objectives. Silva is unable to pass the forward post. That ought to be buried, really. When a natural goal scorer puts these in the back of the net, Rangers avoid losing the match that they played in today.”I am aware of Dessers’ success, and the manager is correct when he points out the team’s superb rotation.

However, there are too many opportunities to waste by turning them down. But I think they would feel much more at ease in games if they had an all-around striker.”Since Rangers have been so great under Philippe Clement, I can’t sit here and be too critical of them. However, that will sting today since I thought there would be just one team left to play and win the game once they returned, but Motherwell had other plans. Back to the drawing board now, as the Hearts vs. Celtic game tomorrow will undoubtedly have a significant impact on the table’s appearance on Monday.”

The main talking point to emerge from the Ibrox matchup was Silva’s foul, which led to a VAR check and a penalty given to the home team. Tavernier executed his attempt with skill, and McCann believes the authorities made the right decision.

“I do think it is the right decision,” he continued. Stephen O’Donnell goes to ground; nonetheless, it is a defender’s cardinal offense to go to ground in the box, especially if he doesn’t appear to be approaching close to it. Fabio Silva is completely cleaned out after just a charming little teasing. There is communication, but a long period of time elapses before a choice is taken. Although I’m not sure how long it will take, I believe this was the right choice.
