‘In touch’: 31-year-old who left Leeds in 2023 says he’s still always looking out for their results…

Jesse Marsch managed Leeds United for slightly under a year.

In the midst of a very trying time for the team, Marsch was hired as Marcelo Bielsa’s replacement at the end of February 2022 and fired less than a year later.

Many changes were made on and off the field as a result of his arrival, including adjustments to the coaching staff, playing group, and tactics. Marsch was also given the chance to make many of his own.

Rene Maric, who was at Borussia Dortmund before joining Leeds, is still regarded as one of the greatest young coaches Marsch has appointed to his backroom staff.

In the most recent episode of the Training Ground Guru Podcast, Maric discusses his memories of Leeds. He claims that although he did not perform to his full potential at Elland Road, he is still “in touch” with members of the team and is always monitoring the outcome.

Maric considers his time in Leeds.

“I believe there was some turmoil among the higher-ups,” he stated. That’s natural; it’s not a critique. I’m sad that it didn’t work out, but I continue to monitor every outcome, stay in contact with the coaching team, and send them best wishes and thoughts.

“I felt that I could have performed my role more effectively, and if I could go back and change some things, I would have worked differently. In my own opinion, I didn’t do the job I wanted to do.”

Clearly fired at the same moment as Marsch, Maric was devastated to leave Leeds. If one were to read between the lines of these most recent remarks, it would seem that he wasn’t quite satisfied with Marsch’s methods. He has made previous allusions to this.

More proof that the 31-year-old has a lengthy coaching career ahead of him comes from the fact that he is currently in a new capacity at Bayern Munich and is still well regarded in the industry.

It’s obvious that Maric fell in love with the club during his time here, and who knows? Maybe he’ll have a part when things are better down the road.
