Glasgow statement: Six Nations campaign over for Sione Tuipulotu

Midfielder Sione Tuipulotu will not be available for Scotland in their final two Guinness Six Nations games of 2024, according to Glasgow manager Franco Smith.Glasgow statement: Six Nations campaign over for Sione TuipulotuThe 27-year-old hobbled off of last weekend’s Scottish Gas Murrayfield Calcutta Cup victory over England, leaving the game soon after the second half began due to a knee ailment he was unable to stretch.

The Scots proceeded to defeat the English 30-21, sealing their fourth consecutive victory over them. This puts them in second place in the Six Nations standings, six points behind the tournament favourites Ireland, whom they will face in round five on March 16, one week after travelling to Rome, Italy.

After Glasgow confirmed that Tuipulotu might miss the rest of the 2023–24 season, they will play those games without him wearing the No. 12 shirt.

According to a statement, club head coach Franco Smith has revealed that Scotland’s Sione Tuipulotu, a centre for the Glasgow Warriors, may miss up to three months of action.

“Tuipulotu sustained a knee injury during the national team’s triumph against England over the weekend. Tuipulotu’s injury is “not as bad as first feared,” according to Glasgow head coach Franco Smith, who expressed optimism that he will recover sooner than anticipated.

“He is going to be out 10-12 weeks, maybe even sooner, but we are conservative with it,” the South African continued. The fact that no surgery is required is significant.

Cameron Redpath replaced Tuipulotu, who was beginning his third straight Six Nations game against England, and immediately set about taking advantage of the visitors’ blitz defence.

Alongside Huw Jones, Redpath is expected to start for the Scots against the Italians in Rome in the hopes that a victory will keep the championship title chase alive before they travel to Dublin for the last round.
