23-cap star fit and firing under Philippe Clement, he could be key

Rangers have 23-cap star fit and firing under Philippe Clement, he could be key

Rangers will need players like Tom Lawrence to step up and be counted in what looks to be a close championship contest.

The 30-year-old Wales international has struggled with injuries over the past 18 months, so it was nice to see him rejoin the team under Gers manager Philippe Clement.
Given the significance of every match, the Rangers management needed as many goal scorers as possible, and it seemed like Tom Lawrence’s chance to win a victory was just around the corner.

Tom Lawrence is a matchwinner replacement for the Rangers.
Lawrence was ranked second only to James Tavernier by Sofascore with a 7.4.

Despite having a role in both goals, Rangers News’s 8/10 rating is totally merited.

His aggressive midfield run resulted in the foul that set up Tavernier’s incredible equalizer.

He then won another free-kick, passing it quickly to Oscar Cortes after switching to Cyriel Desser’s rapid throw in.
It would have been simple to pause and applaud his excellent job, but he instead carried on running into the box and fired a low attempt that was well-placed and struck into the bottom corner.

The method worked well.

With 23 caps for Wales, Tom Lawrence has seen goals disallowed and attempts on goal prevented in recent weeks.

Though there wasn’t much more he could have done to score, at Rugby Park his perseverance paid off nicely.
Before sustaining a brief injury, Todd Cantwell was playing brilliantly; still, Lawrence had the ability to cover for him.

He needs to continue being physically fit.
Lawrence’s style was a perfect fit against Kilmarnock.
He’s not your usual offensive or creative player.
In addition to being aggressive and diligent, he is a leader.
It was no accident that when we included Lawrence more into the game in the second half, we played better.

Tom Lawrence may have to settle for a bench spot because of the tight turnaround against Motherwell at Ibrox, but Rangers supporters are aware that he is becoming closer to being the kind of player who can be a talisman for Philippe Clement with each passing week.
