Daniel Kelly Speaks After Scoring First Celtic Goal

Daniel Kelly, a midfielder for Celtic, has made a statement following his first-ever professional goal in football this evening against Dundee.CelticUnder the lights, the Hoops pushed seven points past their opponents in a classic effort. Play was fast-paced and the energy was strong throughout.

Within the opening six minutes, a header by Cameron Carter-Vickers opened the floodgates. Before young Kelly entered and stole the show, Adam Idah, Matt O’Riley, Daizen Maeda, Greg Taylor, and Callum McGregor all joined in.

After the half, the 18-year-old took over as captain and, using his weaker right foot, thumped one into the top corner shortly after the hour. Although Kelly’s goal won’t come as a surprise to anyone who have watched Celtic B this season, it was a finish that demonstrated maturity well beyond his years.

The midfield player was thrilled to have carried over his form into the senior game: “It was brilliant,” he remarked (Celtic FC on YouTube). The midfielder has frequently scored goals with third-man runs in a manner similar to what he accomplished tonight for the young team.

“I was clearly buzzing when the opportunity arose. Learning from this group of boys is no better, and doing it in front of the crowd is no better either.”

Kelly has been with the team since he was eight years old, so scoring goals for the Celtic first team has likely always been a goal of his. Those closest to him were there as he accomplished a major objective: “I had quite a few of them (family members) in the crowd tonight,” joked Kelly.Brendan Rodgers
“It was great because some of my friends who have watched me grow up were there as well.”

The academy graduate appears to have a promising career ahead of them. He appears to be well-liked by head coach Aaron Rodgers, and considering how important this part of the season is, it is noteworthy that an 18-year-old with such little senior experience has been trusted to play the entire half of the game, no matter the outcome.
