Coventry City should have Wigan Athletic star on radar amid Callum O’Hare uncertainty: View

A Wigan Athletic player is someone Coventry City should be watching in light of Callum O’Hare’s predicament.Callum O’Hare, a midfielder, is a valuable asset to Coventry City, but keeping him around beyond this season may be difficult.

The Sky Blues had another poor start to the season, but they have managed to put together a run of form that has put them back in the running for a play-off berth.

Coventry will, however, be plagued by a persistent worry since O’Hare’s contract is soon to expire and it appears he is hesitant to stay longer.

Callum O’Hare remaining open-minded

As previously stated, Callum O’Hare’s Sky Blues contract is set to expire this summer, and he will be leaving the team without a contract unless a new one is reached.
Teams like Southampton and Leicester City were cited as being interested in signing the 25-year-old when it was first revealed in January.

Though no deal happened, Coventry manager Mark Robins has recently stated that the player is leaving his options regarding his contract open, eager to see if any Premier League sides will be interested in him in the summer.

“Callum wants to keep his options open, and I think everyone will have gleaned that by now, and that’s his prerogative,” Robins stated to Coventry Live.

“We have made him an offer of a contract, and it’s a nice one, but he wants to leave his options open to see if any Premier League teams are interested in signing him—whether that’s if we make it into the Premier League or not.

“I believe that all options are available to him; it’s his prerogative to keep them open.”

As a result, Coventry needs to keep its options open and hunt for acceptable replacements, and they may find one at Wigan Athletic, while O’Hare waits to see what happens before deciding on his contract.

In the uncertainties surrounding O’Hare, Coventry City should be keeping an eye on Thelo Aasgaard.

If Callum O’Hare decides to leave the club in the summer, Coventry needs to make sure they are in a position where they can take action.
As a result, they should be considering several excellent choices. Thelo Aasgaard may be one of them, which will not sit well with Wigan Athletic supporters.

The Latics’ academy produced the 21-year-old, who advanced to the main team in 2020.

The attacker was in and out of the squad over the first few seasons, but after the 2023–24 campaign and the previous season, Aasgaard has established himself as an essential member of Wigan’s assault.

With seven goals so far this season, Aasgaard has put up his greatest performance while wearing a Wigan shirt. According to Fbref.com, the midfield player is averaging 0.40 goals per game, so that is really good.

The 21-year-old, who averages 1.9 shots per game with 1.0 on goal, has proved essential to Wigan’s future success.

In addition to his goals, Aasgaard is contributing creatively as well. He averages 0.12 assists per game, out of two assists. According to SofaScore.com, the attacker has also generated one significant opportunity this season from his 36.3 touches, and that significant opportunity will have originated from his 0.7 vital passes.

The Norwegian is a highly regarded player at Wigan; he is not yet the polished product, but he is making an impression in League One and appears capable of playing at a higher level of the game.

Similar to O’Hare, Aasgaard is capable of playing as a centre attacking midfielder but is also adaptable enough to play out wide, as O’Hare now plays for Coventry.

The only issue is that Wigan has all the cards regarding Aasgaard’s future because he only signed a fresh five-year contract last summer. The midfielder would therefore not be inexpensive if the Sky Blues were to sign him.

Even though Coventry may not view him as the ideal successor, they should nonetheless keep a watch on him from now until the campaign’s conclusion.
