Rangers-linked Argentina winger faces Boca Juniors v River Plate injury sweat

Rangers-linked Boca Juniors winger Luca Langoni faces a fitness sweat ahead of this weekend’s Superclasico clash with River Plate.

The legendary Buenos Aires derby clash is set to take place this Sunday (25/02) at 5pm local time (8pm GMT) with Rangers fans having a vested interest due to links to Langoni.

But the 22-year-old faces a race against time to be fit for the clash as Rangers hope to catch a glimpse of the young South American in the match.

Rangers were linked with a move for Luca Langoni in the January window alongside Fulham, OGC Nice, and Sevilla.

Whilst teammate Marcos Rojo appears to be failing his fitness test ahead of the match, the sounds around young Argentine winger Luca Langoni are more positive.

According to El Chorriello, Boca Juniors are hopeful that Langoni can rejoin his teammates on Wednesday ahead of the clash on Sunday.

This comes after the youngster sustained a knee injury in Boca’s 2-1 defeat to Lanus earlier in the week.

Rangers fans will be watching closely to see if young Luca Langoni can rise to the occasion against River Plate with the famous Buenos Aires Derby certainly having shades of the Old Firm.

Boca Juniors winger on Rangers’ radar

Rangers have been linked to Luca Langoni amid an increased emphasis on players from emerging markets such as those in South America.

The Ibrox side have already signed young Colombian winger Oscar Cortes on loan from RC Lens with Nils Koppen known to be actively monitoring the continent.

The idea is that Rangers sign the best young talent from the continent – be it via countries such as Argentina, Brazil, or Colombia – before flipping them for a profit to a bigger league.

Rangers aren’t the only ones however and Luca Langoni may already be out of the Ibrox side’s reach.

Reports have suggested the winger has a £13m release clause at Boca Juniors and that the likes of AS Roma are also interested.
