‘Definitely not’: Pundit claims Celtic have signed two players who Brendan Rodgers didn’t pick
|The chat surrounding Celtic’s business in the transfer market has been front and centre ever since Brendan Rodgers started shipping out players in January.
Marco Tilio left to join Melbourne FC on loan as did Hyeokkyu Kwon who went to Paisley to join Stephen Robinson’s St Mirren.
Gustaf Lagerbielke was set for a January exit until an injury to Cameron Carter-Vickers put paid to that. So it is little wonder there have been questions surrounding Celtic’s transfer business and Brendan Rodgers‘ role in that.
However, pundit Ewan Cameron, believes that at least two of Celtic’s summer signings were forced on Rodgers and that the Hoops manager had no say in the matter.
Cameron said [Big Scottish Football Podcast], “I read the other night there that Celtic spent £22m on four wingers and two centre backs, and the two centre backs are Lagerbielke and Nawrocki.
“£7.3m was spent on just those two players. They’re definitely not Brendan Rodgers’ signings. Because if they were his signings, he’d be playing them, right?
“They’re not his signings, they’ve been forced on him and he doesn’t fancy them. He doesn’t rate them.
“And I just wonder whether there’s some sort of standoff there and it’s causing problems behind the scenes because Rodgers is going, ‘You’re not good enough for me. I don’t want them.’
Now, the official line from Celtic and Rodgers is that the manager signs off on all the players who have been recruited so far this season.
So it is little wonder that there have been questions raised about Rodgers’ role if players he signed off in the summer are now deemed not good enough not four months later.
The next transfer window will be huge for Celtic. Regardless of whether they win the league or not, if recruitment is not right, we could see our relentless period of domination in Scotland come to a shuddering halt.
