Fuli names electrifying debutant in Fiji Airways Fijiana 7s squad for Vancouver and LA legs

Saiasi Fuli, the head coach of the Fiji Airways Fijiana 7s, has revealed an exciting roster for the forthcoming Vancouver and Los Angeles 7s competitions, including one rookie.

Heleina Young, a national sprinter, has joined the team and will provide speed and depth to the already seasoned group.

“Heleina has made incredible progress throughout her rehabilitation, and now is her time to shine and show off her talent on the field,” stated Coach Fuli.

“Young is a talented player who has put in a lot of work in the last few months.”

Excitingly, bronze medallist from the Olympics Laisani Likuceva returns to the team following a well-earned recuperation period and is sure to have a big influence.

A core group of players led by Captain Ana Naimasi has also been maintained by Fuli.

Reapi Ulunisau, Lavena Cavuru, and Ilisapeci Delaiwau provide speed and agility to the backs, while Vani Buleki, Aloesi Nakoci, Raijeli Daveua, and Verenaisi Bari provide strength in the forward position. The squad has a strong lineup overall.

The forthcoming competitions offer a chance to raise their World SVNS Series rankings and provide essential training for the Olympics.

Fuli stated, “The Fiji Airways Fijiana 7s team is eager to climb the rankings and bolster their point tally in the upcoming competitions. We are currently positioned seventh after a quarterfinal exit in Perth.”

In the Vancouver 7s, the team will compete against table-toppers Australia as well as Japan and the USA in a difficult pool.

The Vancouver 7s are slated to begin on February 23 and run through February 25.
