‘Negative and backwards’ – Michael Beale makes candid Sunderland admission

Even Michael Beale was baffled by Sunderland’s performance against Birmingham in the second half.
Michael Beale questioned his own changes and said that Sunderland was “negative and went backwards” in their loss to Birmingham.

At St Andrews, Sunderland played what was likely their poorest half-an-hour of the season; even Michael Beale was having trouble understanding it.

Beale stated, “I just thought we were a little bit too easy to play against in the second half.” “We performed for them.”

Even as soon as we took the pitch, we were negative and made a step backward.

“I want us to have a more upbeat attitude. As a coach, it is my responsibility to identify problems, force us to play, and provide guidance so that we may get better.

Even today, the subs may have had a bigger effect, so once more, am I acting appropriately when I make those decisions?

The true source of frustration is how awful the second half performance was after such a positive one just before halftime.

Beale attributes some of that to “tired legs,” but precisely what comment did he make to them after halftime?

He remarked, “We talked about what to expect in the second half.” “We were aware that the throng would rally behind them and close the gap.

“I felt that by performing for them, we made it somewhat simple to be pressed.” Could we hold the ball up or run behind more?

“Given our strong position at halftime, the second half is very, really bad.

“People are unaware that someone like Trai Hume are going to the well on our behalf after passing a fitness test.

“I adore him because of the mindset he possesses. Some players this week have participated in all three games, and following Wednesday’s contest, they appeared to be quite exhausted both physically and emotionally.
