‘It’s been broken up’: Pundit says 23-year-old has ‘disrupted’ Celtic XI

When Adam Idah arrived at Celtic during the January transfer window, it didn’t exactly fill the supporters with huge joy.

This wasn’t an issue with the player himself, but the supporters more frustrated and annoyed at the powers that be at Parkhead not investing and bringing in enough quality to boost the squad.

Before Adah Idah joined, Celtic were playing some questionable football under Brendan Rodgers and dropping valuable points in the title race.

Fast forward to the present and the same is happening, with the 23-year-old joining the Bhoys from Norwich City on a loan deal until the end of the season.

But Stephen McGinn’s issue with the Adam Idah signing is that he has ‘disrupted’ the only good thing about Celtic’s XI this season and that’s the midfield, as he told The Scottish Football Podcast.

Brendan Rodgers has started both Adam Idah and Kyogo Furuhashi together, but in order to do that, he has taken Paulo Bernardo out of the XI.

Just before the winter break, the on-loan Benfica star was starting to showcase really promise in Celtic colours, including scoring the opening goal during the win over Rangers at Parkhead.

Yet, in next to no time, he is out of the XI and warming the bench again, with Stephen McGinn questioning that move from the Celtic manager.

Fitting Adam Idah into Celtic’s XI

“Adam Idah looks like a really promising player,” said McGinn. “A lot of potential.

“But bringing in him to start has probably disrupted the only good bits in Celtic’s team this season, in terms of the way they finished before the break. The midfield three that’s McGregor, O’Riley and Bernardo.

“You think that’s where they had the edge over Rangers, in terms of the quality in midfield. That’s been broken up to fit in Adam Idah.”

Celtic’s midfield this season

Up until December, you would have said that Matt O’Riley was the best player in Scotland, but his form has gone out of the window since the return of the winter break.

The captain himself has stepped up and produced the goods in the biggest of games, but Callum McGregor has to admit that the consistency hasn’t been there from himself either.

Reo Hatate’s constant injury issues haven’t helped matters, whereas Bernardo was showcasing some light and now finds himself out of the XI.

In some quarters, you sympathise with Rodgers when it comes to chopping and changing. But, in other aspects, he isn’t helping himself.
